ABSOLUTELY PRIVATE
On photography from 2000 to the present
The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography celebrated its 10th anniversary with an international group exhibition.
The exhibition Absolutely Private introduced works of fifteen young photographers from seven countries.
Photographers Elina Brotherus and Anni Emilia Leppälä represented Finland in this exhibition which addressed new potential and new values in photographic images.

ART by EIJA-LIISA AHTILA on TOKYO BILLBOARD SCREENS
Media artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila's work Ground Control were shown on 4 big billboard screens in different Tokyo city centers during April, 2006. The 18 second video work was run twice an hour every day. The project was produced by Nichido Art Gallery

ECHIGO-TSUMARI ART TRIENNIAL 2006
Echigo-Tsumari hosted the third Triennial during July 23 – September 10, 2006. The invited artists from Finland were Maaria Wirkkala and Kaarina Kaikkonen.
The world’s biggest outdoor art exhibition gathered 200 artists from 40 countries. Main concept of the exhibition was “Human Beings as Part of Nature”.

ANU TUOMINEN: Kitchen
Art-U Gallery in Tokyo hosted the first solo exhibition in Japan by Finnish artist Anu Tuominen. Tuominen displays daily objects and household utensils almost as they are, but with slight modification. This exhibition gathered the works around Tuominen's favourite subject 'kitchen'.

ALVAR AALTO COLLECTION
Shaping the Future since 1936

The exhibition celebrated the 70 year anniversary of the famous Aalto Vase. It included the original Aalto vase designs and new designs inspired by Aalto's original idea.

A lecture on Finnish design had been hold at AXIS Gallery on Oct 24 at 18:00. Speakers were Professor Yrjö Sotamaa and Industrial Designer Pekka Toivanen.
TOMMI KITTI COMPANY in TOKYO and SEOUL
Choreographer Tommi Kitti participated in the Dance Triennale Tokyo-Seoul in the autumn 2006. The piece titled Spiral was performed on Oct 29 at Spiral Hall in Tokyo. The same piece was performed also in Seoul, Theatre Zero, on Nov 1.

FINLAND COLLECTION

The works of young Finnish fashion designers were exhibited at Spiral, Tokyo, on Nov 13 - 19, 2006. The exhibition presented clothes, shoes and accessories by six designers or brands, all of whom have gained success both in Finland and abroad. The participants were IVANAhelsinki, Lustwear, Hanna Sarén, Naoto Niidome, Tiia Vanhatapio and St.Vacant.
FINLAND COLLECTION was produced by The Finnish Institute in Japan and Design Forum Finland.

PROJECT ARCHIVE 2005
Club Aurora in Nagoya and Tokyo

Club Aurora was a special night to experience electronic music and media art from Finland. It was arranged in Nagoya and Tokyo in March.
Jimi Tenor, a leading figure of electronic music in Europe, gave a one man show. Club Aurora also featured Uusi Fantasia band and two top DJ's DJ Esko Routamaa and DJ Tommi Grönlund. Also, works of some of the most interesting and successful Finnish media artists were shown: Aurora Reinhard, Hanna Haaslahti, Maria Duncker, Raakel Kuukka and Mika Taanila. Works were projected on Sound Screen Pro, a new technical invention from Finland.
Finnish visual artist Tea Mäkipää participates in the Art Project of the World Exposition 2005 in Aichi, Japan.
Only seven artists from different countries were chosen for the project. Mäkipää's new art installation will be exhibited during the whole Expo period from March 25 to September 25, 2005. Please read more at www.expo2005artprogram.com
